“Celebrating the Unstoppable” was the theme of the Leading Women Entrepreneurs’ (LWE) Monday, November 14, cocktail reception at which KRS CPAs partner Maria Rollins was recognized as a 2016 Top 25 Women Entrepreneur. Held at the Liberty House in Jersey City, the event featured networking, an awards presentation and keynote speech by Sallie Krawcheck, CEO and co-founder of Ellevest and past CEO of Merrill Lynch Wealth Management.
Tying into the event’s theme, Rollins notes that while it is passion and a love for what she does that makes her unstoppable, “It’s also the support I get from home and from my wonderful staff. I couldn’t do it without them.”
Rollins was selected as an LWE Top 25 Entrepreneur by an independent committee out of hundreds of entries and judged in four areas: Market Potential, Innovation, Advocacy for Women, and Community Involvement. She is among an impressive list of awardees who represent a variety of industries, support numerous nonprofits, employ thousands, and generate billions in revenues.
In her interview with LWE CEO Linda Wellbrock prior to the event, Rollins shared what she sees as one of the biggest challenges to running a business, “There are challenges every day. Some are very enjoyable when you overcome them. But most importantly, it’s the growth of the business. That’s something that you really need to focus on, otherwise growth can really get out of control. You need to have controlled growth.”
Rollins also discussed how she got started advocating for women. “I started working with women in a small organization called NJAWBO years ago. They taught me how to network. I had women who mentored me, so I have to give that back. Today I work with the young women in my firm and other young women in the organizations that I’m part of,” she said.
